Man vs Machine

Welcome to the wonderfully inventive world of Yuri Suzuki.

Physical Value of Sound. A record player with 5 tone arms used to compose and play back music.

The White Noise project.

These Bluetooth Tap Shoes generate music, sound and spoken word when you hit the dance floor.

50 Hands is a book that allows you to participate in an orchestral arrangement through ripping out the pages and folding them into a series of whistles. It's then just a matter of putting on the accompanying DVD and playing along.

The Musical Kettle. Need I say more?

But behold...

The Breakfast Machine lives!

The video below is in Dutch, but you get the idea. My dream has finally come true. Marketable? Well, the Wakin' Bacon worked...

It all makes me feel a bit like a kid again.

You can discover all of the above content and Yuri Suzuki's other experimental projects at his website.

And if you're lucky enough to be in Tokyo right now or very soon, Suzuki is exhibiting as part of Cyber Arts Japan which is a major event celebrating 30 years of art and media technology. The exhibition has been organised with the support of the Ars Electronics festival that occurs yearly in Linz - just one more "overseas festival I must one day attend" to add to the list.

Cyber Arts is happening at the MOT in Miyoshi, Tokyo.

52 Suburbs

It was quite lovely to see Glebe come up as suburb number 22 this week on Louise Hawson's cult local blog, 52 Suburbs. It's such a fascinating project to watch unfold and makes me want to visit all the suburbs of my hometown that I've never really given a second glance to. Not to mention her photography is wonderful...she has a real eye for picking the interesting parts out of these postcodes.

I really did pick the right neighbourhood to live in though. Love you Glebe.

Hvass & Hannibal

Hvass & Hannibal are COLOUR.

Plain and simple. This art and design studio based in Copenhagen is the brainchild of Sofie Hannibal and Nan Na Hvass, who have been producing these colourful explosion projects since 2006 . They seem to leave no medium behind, dabbling in everything from illustration and mural art to album covers, music videos and art direction. It all looks like so much fun.
